Color Trends 2018

How does the Retail and Construction sector use color?

Colors are a fundamental part of the interior design sector. The chosen tones serve to create different moods and we can take advantage of all the characteristics of the different tones for our work.

Today I want to talk to you about the color trends of 2018 and also how different shades influence the purchasing decisions and actions of consumers or clients.

Pantone has announced the so-called color of the year 2018. This is the Ultra Violet, a tone that evokes originality and the thought that moves us towards the future.

According to the company, this color is a clear reflection of what our society needs today. As its vice president, Laurie Pressman, explains, “we are afraid to move forward and we see how people react to that fear.” This color is complex, like our society, as it chooses two seemingly opposite tones like red and blue to create something different.

Pantone's Color of the Year is something that goes beyond a trend, since it becomes at every moment a reflection of what the world, in that situation, is demanding. “We live in a time when we need imagination and ingenuity. And that creative inspiration is what we find in Pantone 18-3838 Ultra Violet,” they say from the Color Institute.

Other colors that will be trending in 2018

In addition to this color, the retail sector In 2018, it will bet on wine, caramel, brown, mauve and amaranth tones.

The psychology of color in the retail sector

As I mentioned at the beginning, interior design plays with colors to attract and provoke actions in consumers. The success or failure of an establishment does not depend on the color we use, but on how the person acts in front of it. Let's see some examples:

  • RED. It symbolizes attraction and power and is often used in fast food restaurants and in products such as drinks.
  • BLUE. Serenity, calm and relaxation. If it is darker, it symbolizes success and lighter, freshness. It is usually used in the technological field and also speaks of seriousness and professionalism.
  • Verde. It evokes nature, is pleasant and transmits good intentions and values related to ecology.
  • Purple. It is linked to creativity and imagination, as we have seen before with Ultra Violet. It is elegant and sophisticated.
  • Black. It is equally formal and elegant and is liked by modern companies as well as traditional ones.
  • Pink. Joy and innocence. It is usually used in cosmetics and toys sectors.
  • Yellow. It attracts children's attention and transmits light and happiness to us.

At EME we are committed to spaces with unique emotions and we know that color is a fundamental part of all of this. If you have any questions about the color trends for 2018 or how these affect customers, we will be happy to help you.
